What is courageous leadership with Annamie Paul

Kimberlé Crenshaw, an activist and professor at UCLA and Columbia University who you might know for coining the term intersectional environmentalist said, “It’s not about supplication, it’s about power. It’s not about asking, it’s about demanding. It’s not about convincing those who are currently in power, it’s about changing the very face of power itself.”

But is Canada ready for universal post-secondary education, long-term health care and pharmacare? What about a guaranteed livable income? Or getting serious about climate change and accepting the sacrifices scientists insist governments must make?

This episode’s guest is Annamie Paul – Leader of the Green Party of Canada and someone who believes that it’s time to be daring. She’s a lawyer and human rights advocate. She’s also the first Black Canadian and Jewish woman to be elected to lead a federal party with representation in Parliament and in this interview, she wonders how Canadians will respond to a different way of doing politics.

She’s already made history but I’ve got a feeling she’s just getting started.

We are afterall facing two crises simultaneously – a global pandemic and the climate crisis. I think she’s on to something considering a bipartisan or collaborative approach to facing the big policy issues, and I for one am very excited about her presence in this political landscape.

Until then – stay curious my friends!
